Students with Masks

COVID-19 Protocols

The novel coronavirus is changing the way the world does everything, and it seems to do so daily. Any sort of planning requires flexibility and the capacity to quickly adapt procedures with the information at hand. Saint Luke Academy takes our students' safety very seriously. Every effort is made to maximize cleaning, to maintain social distancing, and to ensure proper mask-wearing and frequent hand-washing.

All students and parents will be expected to be in masks when they arrive at the school entrance. Students (not attending Extended Care before or after school) will enter the Academy through the Greenview Gate. Teachers and staff will greet families and assess students. Any student with a fever over 99.9 degrees will be sent home.

Standard COVID-19 questions will be asked of every family. If any exposure is noted, the student will be asked to quarantine at home, and the family will remain in contact with the principal.

a. Have you been diagnosed with COVID-19 by approved testing?

b. Have you been exposed to anyone who has been officially diagnosed with COVID-19?

c. Have you traveled outside of Illinois in the past two weeks? If so, where?

d. Do you have any of the following: fever, cough, sore throat, shortness of breath, loss of

taste or smell, stomach distress, or any other COVID-19-related symptoms?

Disposable medical masks are recommended, but not required. Masks should fit snuggly and completely cover the nose and the mouth and will be worn all day, with few exceptions, including lunch and naptime. Fleece masks and neck gaiters are NOT recommended, per CDC guidelines, and will not be acceptable.

Parents will not be allowed to enter the school building.

Students and their teachers will remain together throughout the day (as a pod or cohort) and there will be very limited interaction between the students and others outside their pod. All teachers and staff will be tested regularly to confirm that they are COVID-free.

As long as coronavirus is a concern, children should be kept home from school when they have a fever or display any COVID-related or flu-like symptoms, and should not return until they are fever-free for 24 hours. Students with symptoms of the common cold or chronic conditions, such as allergies, must provide a doctor's note, confirming they are COVID-free before they can return to school.

The Academy will follow the most current CDC guidelines regarding sending students home or denying entry.

If a case of COVID-19 is confirmed in the Academy, the principal will contact all families in the affected classroom and share the latest quarantine guidelines and procedures. All students who share that classroom will be asked to quarantine, and if there is a sibling in the Academy, both classrooms will be asked to quarantine for two weeks.

Two identified COVID-19 cases in one classroom are considered an outbreak, and the school will close for the recommended quarantine period. During the closure, the school will be cleaned thoroughly and the Academy will move to virtual learning for the length of the quarantine.

If you have any specific questions or concerns, please contact the principal at 773-472-3838.
