THE DOEDERLEIN COLLECTION

The core of the Saint Luke Collection is the work of the late Gertrude Doederlein, teacher and artist-in-residence at Saint Luke Academy for over 60 years. Her paintings, sketches and drawings were left to Saint Luke Church and housed in the Doederlein Gallery named in her honor. The gallery hosts a yearly exhibit drawn from her work. Individual pieces are also displayed throughout the building.
MOLA COLLECTION
In keeping with its commitment to support and display traditional ethnic arts, Saint Luke has on permanent display throughout the building textile works by Kuna women of the San Blas Islands in Panama. These unusual reverse applique works were originally sections of native costume, elaborately pieced and embroidered. They depict native tales, flora and fauna, and Christian stories. Several exhibits of these striking pieces have generated sales that benefit the islands' educational fund and workshops have introduced both adults and children to the techniques that create these unique textiles.

THE EDDIE BOYD PAINTINGS
Tempera paintings by the late artist Eddie Boyd are a maze of 1960s-era African inspired images that move the eye from one angle to another, from the small figure into the larger matrix. Over the years Saint Luke has acquired a diverse assortment of art, including many religious themed pieces, in a variety of media from many different ethnic traditions. These pieces are displayed throughout the building complex, both in permanent installations in Saint Luke Academy and in seasonal displays in walls and alcoves within the church.
